chair, armchair, bench, stool

這些名詞均有“椅子”或“凳子”之意。

chair : 通常指帶有靠背的椅子，有時也指有靠背有扶手的椅子。

He pulled up a chair.（他拖過一把椅子。）

小編注：chair作為動詞講，還有主持的意思。

例如：Will you chair the meeting or shall I?（由你還是由我來主持會議?）

armchair : 指有扶手的椅子。

I love curling up in an armchair with a good book.（我愛在扶手椅上蜷作一團看我喜歡的書。）

bench : 指可供兩人或更多人坐的長凳或石凳，多置于公園或劃艇中。

He saw a girl sitting on a bench against the railings.（他看見一位姑娘坐在靠近圍欄的板凳上。）

小編注：在美式英語中, bench也可表示“把場上隊員換下”或“因犯規(guī)而罰場上隊員出場”。

例如：The fullback was benched with injuries.（后衛(wèi)因受傷被換下場。）

stool : 多指方的或圓的無靠背無扶手一人坐的凳子。

He perched on a tall stool by the bar.（他坐在吧臺前的高凳子上。）
