這些名詞均含有“選擇”之意。

: 側(cè)重指自由選擇的權(quán)利或特權(quán)。

Of the twochoices, I prefer the latter.（在兩種選擇中, 我要后者。）

ative : 指在相互排斥的兩者之間作嚴(yán)格的選擇，也可指在兩者以上中進(jìn)行選擇。

The only alternative to being taken prisoner was to die fighting.（除了當(dāng)俘虜之外, 惟一的選擇就是奮戰(zhàn)至死了。）

ence : 側(cè)重因偏見(jiàn)、愛(ài)好或判斷等而進(jìn)行選擇。

My preference is that we (should) challenge the other groups to a friendly competition.（我喜歡向別的組挑戰(zhàn), 來(lái)一個(gè)友誼競(jìng)賽。）

: 著重特別給予的選擇權(quán)利或權(quán)力，所選物常常相互排斥。

You will have to pay them; you have no option.（你必須付給他們錢, 別無(wú)選擇。）

ion: 指作廣泛的選擇，著重選擇者的識(shí)別力或鑒賞力。

We left the selection of the team to the captain.（我們把挑選隊(duì)員的工作交給了隊(duì)長(zhǎng)。）

on : 強(qiáng)調(diào)目的和達(dá)到目的判斷能力。

The newspapers are discussing the coming election.（各家報(bào)紙現(xiàn)在正談?wù)撐磥?lái)選舉事宜。）
