The Transportation Security Administration says airport screens will continue but they will try to make them as minimally invasive as possible. The more thorough screenings have drawn fire from lawmakers and passengers. They come nearly a year after a Nigerian man tried to bring down a plane with explosives in his underwear.
Authorities say a flight headed to Moscow carrying about 200 passengers had to return to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport after an engine failed. No one was injured, initially there were reports that one of the plane’s wings was on fire. That report was incorrect.
Polices and mine rescue crews in New Zealand now say 29 miners trapped underground since Friday may not have survived the blast. Toxic gases have prevented rescuers from entering the mine and there has been no contact with the missing men.
Former First Lady Barbara Bush says former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin should remain in her home state. Bush told CNN’s Larry King that Palin seems very happy in Alaska then added “I hope she’ll stay there.” Palin is considering a presidential run in 2012.
