最近很多朋友和英大抱怨自己遇到很尷尬的處境,例如:吃飯沒(méi)帶錢,老板在訓(xùn)人自己沒(méi)忍住偷笑,或者是把小抄傳到監(jiān)考員手中。真的大麻煩,好尷尬?。〗裉煊⒋缶徒探檀蠹页薬wkward 以外還可以用那些方法來(lái)表達(dá)尷尬。

in a devil of a hole
[俚]處境非常尷尬

devil hole 直譯就是“魔鬼洞”,形容自身處境非常艱難尷尬,就像是深入魔鬼的洞穴,英大想想都覺(jué)得可怕

e.g. Joe is in a devil of a hole.
喬現(xiàn)在處境非常尷尬。

e.g. It put me in a devil hole of having to lie.
這令我陷入了不得不說(shuō)謊的尷尬境地。

2.a trying situation
難處境況,尷尬處境

“trying situation”除了可以形容嚴(yán)峻困窘意外,還有“不要意思的局面”,“令人傷腦筋的局面”

e.g. That is a trying situation.
那是一個(gè)不好意思的局面。

e.g. It was a trying situation.
這是一個(gè)讓人傷腦筋的局面。

e.g.The public finance of China is now in a trying situation.
我國(guó)財(cái)政正處于嚴(yán)峻的困窘境地。

3.“hot”也可以用來(lái)表示你的尷尬

①make it hot for him
使之對(duì)他有害的,讓你不好過(guò)。

e.g. The police say they'll make it really hot for Barry if they catch him a second time driving his car without tax.
警方說(shuō),如果他們第二次抓住馬里沒(méi)有交納牌照稅,他們將會(huì)讓他不好過(guò)的。

②in the hot seat
處于尷尬的處境,如坐針氈。

e.g.On the business front, IT executives are frequently in the hot seat when it comes to justifying their budgets.
在業(yè)務(wù)上,當(dāng)涉及到說(shuō)明自己預(yù)算合理性時(shí),IT執(zhí)行人員往往處于尷尬的位置。

P.S. “hot seat”也有身負(fù)重任,挑大梁的意思。

e.g.He is to remain in the hot seat as chief executive.
他將繼續(xù)留在公司首席行政官這個(gè)身負(fù)重任的位子上。

e.g.You make the decisions - you're in the hot seat now!
你得做決定,這現(xiàn)在是你的責(zé)任了。

③in hot water
在熱水里?它的意思并不是“在熱水中”,它的確切意思是指某人或某些人遇到非常麻煩的問(wèn)題了,表現(xiàn)得尷尬焦躁不安。

e.g.He was found cheating on the exam, and now he's in hot water.
他考試作弊被發(fā)現(xiàn)了,現(xiàn)在他可麻煩了。

e.g. I'm sorry I can't lend you money. I myself am in hot water.
抱歉,沒(méi)錢借給你了,我現(xiàn)在也是麻煩纏身呢。

e.g. John lost his credit card and he was in hot water.
約翰丟失了他的信用卡,現(xiàn)在他如坐針氈。

4.Facepalm
捂臉

A facepalm is the physical gesture of placing one's hand flat across one's face or lowering one's face into one's hand or hands.
捂臉,指的是用手捂住臉或?qū)⒛樎襁M(jìn)手掌的動(dòng)作。

這個(gè)動(dòng)作多用來(lái)表達(dá)沮喪或者尷尬,或者是“你怎么這么傻愣”,“你高興就好”以及“天下我只服你一人”等情況。

對(duì)于常看英美劇的寶寶們來(lái)說(shuō),這個(gè)詞一定不陌生。

在MTV臺(tái)播放由莫莉?塔洛芙飾演的Awkward,就被翻譯成《囧女珍娜》。所以,“囧”就可以用awkard了。

e.g. There was an awkwardly long silence.
有一段令人尷尬的長(zhǎng)時(shí)間的沉默。

(英大朋友:就怕空氣突然安靜了。就是這個(gè)意思了。)

e.g. The president laughed off the awkward situation.
總統(tǒng)對(duì)尷尬的處境一笑置之。

e.g. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you.
她笑著對(duì)他說(shuō):“如果我讓你感到尷尬了,對(duì)不起。

e.g. Are you embarrassed for me?

n. 狼狽;挫敗,崩潰

e.g.People laugh not only from pleasure or affection, but also at the discomfiture of someone else.
人們不僅因?yàn)橛鋹偤拖矏?ài)而笑,也會(huì)在他人造成挫折或?qū)擂蔚木置鏁r(shí)而笑。

e.g.He was really not masterful enough mentally, and he had witnessed her discomfiture.
他的確在精神上不夠老練,況且他親眼見(jiàn)到了她的狼狽情況。
