Text A Stop Eating Fried Potatoes

Mrs Jenkins went to her doctor one day, because her heart was giving her trouble.
一天，Mrs Jenkins去看醫(yī)生，因?yàn)樗男呐K有問題。

The doctor listened to her heart carefully and did a few other things. Then he said, "Well, Mrs. Jenkins, stop smoking, and then you'll soon be quite all right again."
醫(yī)生聽診了她的心臟并且做了其他的一些檢查，然后他說：“嗯，Mrs Jenkins，戒煙吧，那樣你很快就會(huì)再次沒事了?！?/div>

"But doctor," answered Mrs. Jenkins quickly, "I've never smoked. I don't like smoking."
“可是醫(yī)生，”Mrs Jenkins很快回答，“我從來都不吸煙，我不喜歡吸煙?！?/div>

"Oh, well," said the doctor, "then don't drink any more alcohol."
“哦，是嗎？”醫(yī)生說，“那就別喝酒了。”

"But I don't drink alcohol," answered Mrs. Jenkins at once.
“但我也不喝酒啊，”Mrs Jenkins馬上回答。

"Stop drinking tea and coffee then," the doctor said to her.
“那就別再喝茶或者咖啡?！贬t(yī)生跟她說。

"I only drink water," answered Mrs. Jenkins."I don't like tea or coffee."
“我只喝水啊，”Mrs Jenkins回答，“我不喜歡喝茶和咖啡?！?/div>

The doctor thought for a few seconds and then said, "Well, er... do you like fried potatoes?"
醫(yī)生于是想了一會(huì)兒然后說：“那，你喜歡炸薯?xiàng)l嗎？”

"Yes, I like them very much," answered Mrs. Jenkins.
“是，我很喜歡他們?！盡rs Jenkins回答。

"All right, then stop eating those," said the doctor as he got up to say goodbye to Mrs Jenkins.
“那就對了，停止吃這些吧?！贬t(yī)生回答道，隨后起身跟Mrs Jenkins說再見了。

Text B Keep Him in Bed

Mrs. Welsh: Get up, Peter. It's late. Mrs.
Welsh：起床了，Peter，快遲到了。

Peter: I can't get up, Mom. I'm ill.
Peter：我起不來，媽媽，我生病了。

Mrs. Welsh: What's the matter with you? Mrs.
Welsh：你怎么了？

Peter: I have a headache and a bad stomachache.
Peter：我頭疼胃也疼。

Mrs Welsh: You have a fever too. I'm going to call Dr Dawes. Don't get out of bed.
Mrs Welsh：你可能是發(fā)燒了，我去叫Dr Dawes，呆在床上別起來。

Peter: Oh, I can't get out of bed. I'm too ill.
Peter：哦，我起不來床，我太難受了。

Mrs. Welsh: Operator, give me spring 3-2546, please. Hello, this is Mrs. Welsh. Is Dr Dawes there? Thank you. I'll wait. . . Dr Dawes, this is Mrs. Welsh. Can you come to the house, please?
Mrs. Welsh：接線員，請幫我接3-2546。你好，我是Mrs. Welsh，請問是Dr Dawes嗎？謝謝，我會(huì)等。Dr Dawes，我是Mrs. Welsh，你能來下我家嗎？

Dr Dawes: Who's ill?
Dr Dawes：誰病了？

Mrs. Welsh: Peter, my son. Mrs.
Welsh：Peter，我兒子。

Dr Dawes: What's the matter with him?
Dr Dawes：他怎么樣了？

Mrs. Welsh: I don't know. He has a headache, a bad stomachache and a fever. Mrs.
Welsh：我不知道，他頭疼胃疼而且有燒。

Dr Dawes: Keep him in bed. Where do you live?
Dr Dawes：讓他呆在床上。你住在哪里？

Mrs. Welsh: We live at 44 Washington Avenue.
Mrs. Welsh：我們住在華盛頓街道44號。

Dr Dawes: All right, Mrs. Welsh, I'll be there soon.
Dr Dawes：好的，Mrs. Welsh，我很快就到那里。

Mrs. Welsh: Thank you. Good-bye Dr Dawes.
Mrs. Welsh：謝謝，再見Dr Dawes。

常用口語：

1. stop eating something. 停止吃something。所謂病從口入，有時(shí)候生病是因?yàn)轱嬍巢蛔⒁?，比如吃了壞掉的東西拉肚子，當(dāng)然也有可能是像醫(yī)生提到的吸煙、喝酒過度之類的，國慶期間有沒猛吃啊，有的話要注意咯，stop eating too much。

2. keep him in bed. 如果生病了呢，休息很重要的，所以要好好在床上躺著啦。
