This Day in History – On August 27th, 1979 - Lord Mountbatten and his grandson were killed by I.R.A..
Lord Louis Mountbatten, sailor, military man, and statesman [-----1-----]. Married to Edwina Ashley in 1922 he became a high Allied Commander in Asia in World War II, and [-----2-----]. He was then asked, as last [-----3-----] in India to help [-----4-----] there and did so within five months. Seen here at the funeral of Mahatama Gandhi, [-----5-----]. In 1954, he became Britain's first Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff. On August 27th, 1979, his family's fishing boat was exploded by an I.R.A. bomb, killing Mountbatten and his grandson.
