Sarah Brightman could be singing from space someday in the near future.

The British classical recording artist recently announced that she had bought a seat to fly on a Russian spaceship, describing it as a chance to live out a childhood desire beyond her wildest dreams.

Brightman, 52, who once had a hit song called “I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper,” plans to rocket some 250 miles above Earth to the International Space Station—becoming the seventh space tourist since American Dennis Tito became the first in 2001.

Once there, she said she intended to become the first professional musician to sing from space.

“This voyage is a product of a dream, my dream. Finally it can be a reality. I am more excited about this than anything I have done in my life to date,” she told a news conference in Moscow.

Brightman, who helped popularize the classical crossover genre, added that the schedule for her flight would “be determined very shortly by (Russian federal space agency) Roscosmos and the ISS partners.”

Alexey Krasnov, head of the ISS program at Roscosmos, said Brightman had passed the required mental and physical examinations to fly into space.

Space Adventures, the Vienna-based company that organizes flights for private spacefarers, did not disclose how much Brightman had paid for her seat on the Soyuz (“聯(lián)盟”號(hào)火箭). But the last space tourist, Cirque du Soleil (太陽(yáng)馬戲團(tuán)) chief executive Guy Laliberte, paid around $35 million for the flight.
